IMPORTANT NOTE:
These are NOT keyable fonts. They are IMAGES made from scans of actual, hand printed, wood type wood type, printer's ornament and assorted wood or metal illustrative cuts.
You CANNOT TYPE with them. Each letterform or graphic element will need to be hand set one piece
at a time... much like using real wood type! Intended primarily for use as Display Type.
WOOD TYPE IMPRESSIONS - VOL. 2 CONTAINS:
• 262 Hi-Resolution (600 dpi), Grayscale bitmap Tiff images, suitable for use in any
Image Editing Program like Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
Each image set has been printed on a relief proofing press. They are printed in a progressive dark to light series onto textured fine art printmaking paper. The majority of these sets also include experimental alternate prints (distressed, scratched, over or underinked, spritzed with solvents, etc.) All the prints were then scanned, corrected and optimized.
Each Tiff contains at least two layers. The bottom background layer is solid white. The top layer(s) contain the isolated grayscale letter or ornamental forms with full 8 bit transparency. Just cut and paste them into your favorite image editing program. Use layers, blending modes and layer styes to compose, arrange, color or otherwise effect them.
If you want to colorize them, be sure to either first convert them or paste them into a CMYK or RGB working document!
FONTS:
• 11 Complete, Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Wood Type fonts: in dark to light series + alternates.
• 12 Mixed, Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Wood Type samplers: in dark to light series + alternates.
• 4 Partial, Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Wood Type fonts: in dark to light series + alternates.
NOTE: The original wood type letter forms range in size from approximately 1" to 4". There are a few that are larger and some lowercase letters are 1/2" high or so, but the majority of the original wooden letters are in the 2" to 4" range. At 600 dpi there should be sufficient resolution in these images to use them for posters and broadsheets.
If for some reason, you might need them larger, I've had good luck scaling them up 300-400% using Genuine Fractals 5. Photoshop's image scaling routines seem to do a fine job in this range as well.
ORNAMENT:
• 7 Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Wood & Metal Type Ornament samplers: in dark to light series.
GALLERY:
• 20 example images (JPEGS) made with elements from Wood Type Impressions Vol. 2.
NOTE: Some gallery images also include elements from Wood Type Impressions Vol. 1.
EXTRAS:
• 1 Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Granjon Arabesque Ornament sampler.
• 1 Hi-Res (600 dpi), bitmap Zellij Shape sampler.
NOTE: Granjon Ornaments were originally made by Robert Granjon in the 16th century. Zellij are a set of traditional tile shapes found in Arabic and Islamic geometric ornament. All due credit goes to their original creators. |
